Description
As an artist and an arts reporter for the Beijing Youth Daily, Wang is consumed by the idea of communication - in words and particularly, in images. He is fascinated by the democratic effect of modern mass communication; that images can be gleaned from the internet, television and magazines, and that governments and news services can no longer control imagery available to a populace. Wang's work at the Mattress Factory is presented as a dark room lit by red light. Images in various states of development float in water. Some are displayed on a wall. Wang has brought negatives of photos from Beijing and from the internet for visitors to print at the Mattress Factory. He invites visitors to print images that he has provided or to bring their own negatives from home and print a copy to leave in the installation. All images will be sent to Wang at the end of the exhibition as an exchange of images between America and China.
